The Environments Supervisor is the artistic and technical leader of the environments work on the project. Their number one priority is to deliver environments for rendering that support the Director’s and Production Designer’s creative vision.
They work closely with the VFX Supervisor, Production Designer and Art Department to translate the vision for the film into the 3D environments.
They provide creative and technical solutions to aesthetic problems.
Act as the creative leader of the Environments build process within the related departments, including but not limited to layout, modeling, surfacing and final layout.
Work with VFX Supervisor to facilitate the look of the environments including hands on rendering tests, including characters and early sequences, to ensure the entire project is visually unified.
Work with the Production Designer to ensure continuity of environments between sequences.
Work closely with the DP-Camera, DP-Lighting, FX & Matte Supervisors and Production Designer in pre-vis/scouting to define early strategies for tackling environments in sequences.
During shot production is creatively responsible for delivering environments to Lighting that work in conjunction with the FX and Matte Painting teams.
Attend Environment Dailies to provide overall perspective for maintaining continuity and quality of work being delivered.
During reviews, discuss complexity with the VFX Supervisor and offer creative input and visual ideas to enhance continuity and consistency of the environments.
Create solutions to creative problems.
Facilitate solving and supporting other department concerns.
Work with show management, Production and environment department heads to ensure the environment teams achieve (or exceed) productivity expectations.
In partnership with the VFX supervisor, Supervising TD, Production Engineering and department heads, helps to define and devise the necessary pipelines and introduces new technologies or techniques to manage the environments creation through all related departments.
Define the show workflow and approval process for departments collaborating on environments.
Work with department heads to define the level of importance of each asset and categorize them to determine the time and effort needed for their creation.
Monitor render times and make rendering recommendations.
Foresees challenges and partners with Technology and Production to communicate the requirements for the show.
Assist VFX Supervisor in monitoring continuity.
Monitor complexity and productivity issues within shots/sequences.
Elevate issues and solutions to Associate Producer/Producer appropriately and effectively.
Supports the department heads & production teams of the related departments to create the schedule, cast shots/assignments to artists, manage the bidding process and ensure quotas/deadlines are met for both shots and sequences.
Partner with Talent Acquisition during the recruiting process to help identify the best talent for the studio.
Mentor potential up-and-coming talent to ensure growth within the studio.
Ensure open communication between departments, production team and studio management.
Sense of humor required.
10+ years of professional experience in the VFX or animation industry.
At least 6 years of experience as Supervisor in the VFX or animation industry.
A strong creative/technical background as proven leader in setting direction for a production and for inspiring and motivating production staff.
Advanced English level
Spanish knowledge is a plus
