The Environment Surfacing Lead will be leading a team of surfacingartists in one project to ensure the quality and deadlines are met. The right candidate will be responsible for briefing the team, communicating notes and implement the look of the show in the department, being the link between theSupervisor and the team.
Takes and receive direction from the Surfacing Supervisor, Environment Supervisor and providing feedback for the team and reviewing artist’s and technical work.
Is an expert on all things relating to surfacing, texturing, and optimizing Assets.
Works with the Director and Supervisors to elevate the quality to the next level.
Evaluates the surfacing artists’ work first, making sure all the assets follow the quality standards and artistic direction.
Keeps up on current technology trends and tools (hardware and software) that best suit the production (and the company) in the development of a stronger creative technical environment.
Provides surfacing support to the Lighting, FX, scene composing, and other teams throughout production.
Shows a proactive approach to learning new skills and tools.
Has a high procedural knowledge of creating textures and shaders and how to apply it.
Leads the team providing them with support, guidance and instruction in areas that contribute towards their artistic, technical and professional growth, making sure all the assets follow the quality standards and artistic direction and that achieves the deadlines.
Follows the Supervisor’s guidance.
Acts as the link between input and output departments (Modeling, Scene composing, Rigging, Lighting, Compositing, etc).
Proposes solutions to technical problems, defining the best ways to proceed.
The volume, ratio and quality of the work produced are directly aligned with the tools and resources provided.
Demonstrates intention and ability to convey information, creates and utilizes communication channels as tools to improve both personal and team efficacy and reach company goals.

6+ years of professional experience in VFX or animation industries.
At least 1 year of experience as Lead in the animation industry.
High experience in Arnold and/or Renderman.
High experience in Substance package and/or Mari.
Shows strong artistic or/and technical aptitude related to 3D animation or VFX.
Possesses deep knowledge of creating UVs.
Knowledge of lighting, modeling, and optimization.
Strong artistic or/and technical aptitude related to 3D animation.
Management of large scenes, huge locations, or complex sequences.
Knowledge of Houdini, Solaris or Katana is desirable.
USD and/or OSL knowledge is a plus.
Knowledge in vegetation workflow (instances and scatter) is a plus.
Understanding of displacement workflow (maps and geo output) is a plus.
