The Senior Networking Engineer at Skydance Animation is a member of the Information Technology team and will be responsible for designing, deploying, operating, and maintaining the studio’s global network architecture and infrastructure. This will include LAN/WAN routing, switching, firewalls, wireless, remote connectivity, cloud environments, and security. The IT team provides a wide range of services including Client Services, Systems Engineering, Media/AV Engineering, Networking, and Information Security.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical “vision” for networking projects, translate targeted solutions into end-to end architectural designs, set proper priority, and lead implementations
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of production and technology software applications, tools, and processes and collaborate with Production Technology groups to provide proper network services and automation
  • Design, implement and maintain the studio’s global network infrastructure, such as with routers, switches, firewalls, wireless, load balancers, VPN, and QoS
  • Design, implement and maintain Network, alerting, monitoring, system resource utilization, Out-of-Band management, trends, and capacity planning, whilst ensuring coordination with other engineers, the Network Operations Center, and leadership
  • Identify features, anticipate, and prevent problems and roadblocks before they occur. Must maintain high levels of networking uptime.
  • Identify areas of improvement and present those opportunities to technology leadership including options, cost-benefit breakdown, and integration plans
  • Author and maintain physical and logical network related diagrams that accurately reflect the current and planned state of the studio
  • Effectively author and deliver project presentations/updates to technical/non-technical audiences that include milestones and scheduling
  • Proactively seek out trends, technologies and information to keep overall studio current and aware of possible solutions to studio challenges
  • Create and foster positive relationships with peers, supervision, stakeholders, 3rdparties, and mentor junior team members
  • Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or 6+ years professional experience as Network Engineer.  8+ years of professional experience without degree
  • In-depth knowledge of Networking Infrastructure, WAN Design, Optimization, and Administration
  • Expert in designing and implementing complex routing, switching, and Firewalls in large-scale, multi-vendor networks (HPE / Aruba, Cisco, Mellanox, Arista, pfSense, Check Point, Palo Alto, Fortinet)
  • Experience with cloud architectures, and designing/configuring multi-account, multi-region networking stack in Public Cloud platforms such as OCI, AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure
  • Strong understanding and practical experience with OSPF, BGP, TCP/IP, Multicast, Ethernet, EVPN, MLAG, and similar technology.
  • Experience ensuring network administrative access and uptime through global out-of-band management (e.g.. Opengear) and infrastructure configuration backups.
  • Proficiency in some form of scripting/automation for configuration management (PowerShell, Python, ansible, etc.)
  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools and protocols (e.g., Wireshark, SNMP, NetFlow).
  • Experience with Authentication systems and identity management platforms (SAML/SSO(Okta), AD, RADIUS, TACACS, LDAP, 802.1x, etc)
  • Experience with Remote Access Concepts, and Architecture (VPN, DMVPN, SD-WAN, RAS, tailscale – NaaS) 
  • Experience with  encryption protocols, related network protocols, security frameworks, certificates, and intrusion detection/prevention systems
  • Experience with VDI, Teradici, or another Thin Client technology a plus (HP/Teradici, Parsec, Jump, RDP)
  • Experience in the Animation, Visual Effects, or Media and Entertainment industries a plus
  • Share a 24×7 on call production support rotation with your team and respond to service incidents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with project mangers/PMO, manage projects, and to deliver them on time and with quality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work closely and efficiently with studio teams
  • Able to work independently on short and medium term projects while managing multiple competing priorities
  • Able to guide an intern or an associate on well-defined technical problems from design to implementation
  • Able to take open ended technical problems and develop practical solutions that meet stakeholder needs
  • Able to explain technical issues clearly and accurately to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical skills and technical troubleshooting skills
  • The range for this exempt position in Los Angeles, CA is $155,000-170,000 per year.  The rate offered may vary based on the candidate’s location, qualifications, experience and relevant expertise, among other factors.  The range indicated is for base salary only and does not reflect the total compensation package, including bonus, benefits, etc.
