The Lighting Lead assists the Lighting Supervisor on technical and creative approaches of an assigned sequence, creates the master lighting rig and deploys to team for production shots, partnering with a compositing artist.
Create the master lighting of a sequence, following the references from the Art department and under the artistic supervision of the Lighting Supervisor. Define the light rig and comp template, together with the Compositing team, that will be used by the team
Follow, together with the other Lighting Leads, the artistic strategy defined by the Lighting Supervisor, to make sure the entire project is visually unified
Work on key shots or production shots until its final delivery, if needed
Highlight cost implications of requests or artistic changes
Work with the Lighting Supervisor, CG Supervisor and the other Lighting Leads to make sure the technical procedures are optimal for the project
Attend the technical meetings and offer solutions to reduce the complexity of the sequence
Work closely with the other Lighting Leads and the Lighting and Compositing Supervisors on the definition and implementation of tools, workflows and pipeline for the department
Define, along with the Lighting, Compositing and CG Supervisors, optimization strategies to make sure the render of the sequence stays in budget
Work closely with other departments during the preproduction and production of the sequence to make sure all the inputs for the Lighting department are optimal
Manage a team of lighting and compositing artists, being responsible for all the shots of the sequence, on time and budget
Attend the Lighting Supervisor review providing feedback about of the shots of his sequences
Troubleshoot creative and technical issues as they arise and determine when shots are ready for review
Enforce the approved technical and artistic workflows for all shots of the sequence
Work closely with Lighting Supervisor and Lighting Production Sup on the shots and tasks assignment of the team
Along with the Lighting Supervisor attend the complexity meetings and elaborates the bid of the sequence
Help with recruiting and perform interviews
Mentor to lighting new hires in his team providing the necessary training
Work with the Lighting Supervisor for maintaining crew morale
6 years of experience in lighting and compositing
4 years of experience in lighting and compositing for animation feature films
Previous experience managing teams
Advanced knowledge of Maya, Arnold and Nuke
Self-motivated and comfortable working with deadlines
Strong artistic eye and understanding of color, lighting and image analysis
Scripting and Python a plus
Experience working with procedural multishot worflows and sequence based lighting is a plus
English: full professional proficiency
Spanish: full professional proficiency a plus
