Technical Director Supervisor

While all Animation studios look to hire people who are creative and hard-working, Skydance Animation is specifically looking for pioneers who seek to push the limits of what the world’s most collaborative art form can achieve, and to give those pioneers the space and the resources to build a new studio that’s doing something different.
As a Technical Director Supervisor, you will be responsible for understanding the creative visions of the Directors, Producers, and Visual Effects Supervisor, while providing practical working tools and workflows. The ideal candidate has experience building and supporting full feature animation production pipelines, possesses excellent communication skills, and is able to quickly learn new workflows and technical skills.  

Responsibilities

  • Defining and organizing the operations of the department that will allow the production of all its deliverables on time, on budget, and with the expected consistent quality.
  • Collaborating with a diverse customer base to refine requirements, priorities and executing roadmaps, projects plans, and commitments.
  • Reporting on the status of development, quality, operations, and team performance.
  • Regularly examine user experiences, satisfaction, and level of understanding to identify areas of improvement to the production pipelines.
  • Liaise between production and technology departments, translating production needs into technical requests.
  • Working closely with TDs to architect and develop the best technical designs and processes.
  • Coordinating with the Director of Technology and other Supervising TDs to provide consistency in tools and workflows.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers to supervise the use of IT Show infrastructure.
  • Solve production issues that require technical expertise.
  • Document solutions, tools, and workflow proposals
  • Keep up on current methodologies and on technology trends and tools that best suit the production and the company.
  • Acts as the primary contact and is responsible for the department.
  • Collaborates and keeps a fluid communication relation with other technology and production departments.
  • Give guidance to the team and supervise the quality of the work.
  • Partner with HR and the talent team to source and recruit the best industry talent.
  • Mentor potential up-and-coming talent to make them grow in the Studio.
  • Obsessing over artist experience in everything you do.
  • Act as an ambassador of the company; extensive network in the industry and plays a key role in selling the studio as a first-class. working place, maintaining ongoing relationships with key industry players, contributing to the good reputation of Skydance.
  • Requisitions

  • Over 8 years of experience in software development in the Animation or VFX Production industry.
  • 2+ years’ experience in Lead or Supervisor positions.
  • Demonstrated advanced tools development experience in 3 or more out of the following platforms: Maya, Houdini, Mari, Katana,  Nuke, or Shotgun.
  • BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Deep understanding of the 3D animation film production process, production pipelines, and workflows (artistic and technical).
  • Digital Processes and Technical Solutions Documentation.
  • Practical knowledge in continuous delivery and agile methodologies.
  • Advance Python and PyQt.
  • Solid Software Engineering skills with an appreciation of software architecture code craft, and technical debt management.
  • Advanced English level.
