Environment Generalist Senior (Houdini)

While all Animation studios look to hire people who are creative and hard-working, Skydance Animation is specifically looking for pioneers who seek to push the limits of what the world’s most collaborative art form can achieve, and to give those pioneers the space and the resources to build a new studio that’s doing something different.
The Final Layout department creates impressive environments with manual and procedural dressings. Using cutting-edge technology, the artists are responsible for distributing and growing assets and vegetation to fill the environment and improve the narrative context of the sequence. All content is gathered and optimized for each shot before delivering to Lighting and Compositing departments.
Artists in this department are involved in several processes such as location assembling process, set dressing per sequence, shot construction, optimization, rendering, publication and support.
For this position we are looking for someone with extensive knowledge of Houdini and ideally focused on Environments and Set Dressing.

Responsibilities

  • Create distributions using scattering tools in Houdini.
  • Improve shot framing per camera, showing strong image composition skills.
  • Building outstanding complex locations with an optimal usage of assets and handle complex scenes.
  • Debug and troubleshoot their own scenes issues and help less experienced team members with the problems they encounter.
  • Consistent and successful delivery of assigned tasks for the show on schedule, meeting the required standards and with minimal supervision.
  • Keep an eye on the department general tasks, pipeline and workflows and possible recurrent problems to identify potential upcoming production issues.
  • Assist the Leads and have close communication with them to share relevant information.
  • Show initiative and communicate with other departments to solve problems, answer questions, or share information.
  • Be able to mentor and collaborate with other team members and share their knowledge and expertise providing them with support, guidance and instruction in areas that contribute towards their artistic and professional growth, as needed.
  • Requirements

  • 5+ years in VFX or animation industries.
  • Strong image composition skills required.
  • Optimal creation of distributions using scattering tools in Houdini.
  • Exceptional technical and/or artistic knowledge.
  • Deep knowledge of Houdini (is a must) and Maya.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of other departments and functions.
  • Ability to debug and troubleshoot complex scenes.
  • High English level desirable.
  • Spanish desirable.
