The VFX Supervisor will be part of the show crew, overseeing all aspects of the shows CG production both at Skydance, and the vendor production partner. As a creative and technical role, this position will be the point person within the show to identify and guide production methods that should be taken to achieve the quality and creative vision of the project. Directing workflows with efficiency in mind, with a complete understanding of all potential solutions to effectively meet the schedule, budgetary, and creative goals of the show. An In-depth knowledge of how animation pipelines and production work is required, with a hands-on ability to guide technical and creative teams to produce the highest quality imagery. The leadership skills required are a high level of communication abilities, emotional intelligence, as well as the capability to present ideas clearly and effectively to executives and crew alike. #Animation

Responsibilities

  • Oversee execution of the visual goals of the series as envisioned by the Show Runners, Art Director, and overall creative leadership.
  • Consult with Producer on overall schedule planning, staffing profiles and bidding.
  • Partner with our vendor to help anticipate production bottlenecks and devise strategies to complete the work on time and on budget.
  • In partnership with Camera and Art, offer insight and planning during the Previs and Design phase.
  • Guide and support our vendor partner on complex procedural approaches for sets, visual effects, and lighting.
  • Devise Quality Control gates and deliver final imagery to post.
  • Partner with Post Supervisor for final color and image mastering.
  • Oversee all Dailies and VFX cross-site reviews with partner vendors.
  • Supervise asset development: Characters, Environments, VFX.
  • Manage and support all artist producing CG work in our LA office.
  • Troubleshoot internal pipeline issues with the technical team.
  • Partner with Director, Art, and DP (camera, lighting) to achieve a feature quality cinematic look in long form series format.
  • Partner with vendor VFX Supe to help direct all effects on the show.
  • Help execute overall cinematography plan.
  • Advocate for, mentor, and develop talent with our in-house teams and vendor partners.
  • Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a VFX Supervisor with animated features and/or high-end series work.
  • Excellent Communication and leadership skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of animation pipelines from asset build to shot production.
  • Experience interfacing with technical groups to bring complex developments to fruition.
  • Proven ability to guide and develop workflows that streamline production.
  • Familiarity with procedural production techniques: Katana, Houdini, Clarisse. etc.
  • Strong compositing knowledge and modern techniques to develop high end environments.
  • Ability to partner with vendor studio to help design and implement pipelines that will achieve rich visual complexity within tight production deadlines.
